Advanced Foods classes, AP Bio, and middle school STEM science participated in a STEAM field trip on December 6, 2018 to Wanchese.
First, students visited the Coastal Studies Institute to view the RISING exhibit which focuses on community perspectives on climate change. Following discussions, students engaged in a debate on whether it should be the states responsibility to force residents to leave due to sea level rise or the individuals.
Next, students visited O’Neals Sea Harvest to enjoy a sea-to-table lunch. Following, they toured the O’Neals fish house to see where our lunch came from and discuss the Outer Banks’ role in the global seafood trade.
Then, the group talked with Bob Peele at Seafood Industrial Park about the history of the park and it’s role in NC commerce.
Finally, students toured Blackwell Boatworks to connect yet another career choice and coastal Carolina commodity.
